From the air Lake Bonavista changes subject twice a year — open water that carries the sky all summer, then a frozen white plane that erases the shoreline once the lake ices over. A lakefront listing shot in the wrong half of that cycle sells the wrong lake: grey ice behind a home whose asking price is built on summer water, or a heat-flattened frame when winter texture was the point.

The shoot is timed to the water — ice-off through freeze-up for open-water frames, with a golden-hour hold that keeps low sun on the surface — and delivered on the turnaround agreed at booking.

Light. The lake sets the calendar: ice-off in spring opens the season and freeze-up closes it. Low evening light on open water is the community's signature frame; winter flips the lake into a white field.

Terrain. A flat, established lake-community plan — crescents and cul-de-sacs ringing a private lake, with Bonavista Village and Southcentre Mall anchoring the commercial edge.

Wind. Chinook belt. The lake sits open to the west wind, and open water shows every gust as surface texture that reads in video, so calm evenings are worth waiting for.

Airspace. Lake Bonavista lies outside the charted Calgary-area control zones in uncontrolled Class G airspace, about 15 km from Kirkby Field (Indus). No airspace authorisation is normally required. On the ground. City of Calgary parks bylaws restrict drone takeoff and landing on municipal park land and pathways, so launches are staged from private property with the client's consent. About 20 minutes from the base — comfortably a same-day booking, and one trip covers Willow Park, Acadia or Fairview alongside it.
