Cochrane & the Foothills
Creative production across Cochrane & the Foothills.
Cochrane and the foothills hamlets — Bragg Creek, Redwood Meadows, Water Valley, and the range roads between them. Cochrane is built on a hillside above the Bow, which means a listing here has vertical relief most Alberta towns do not, and a west-facing town gets its best light in the last hour of the day.
Aerial work across Cochrane
Film and photography are unaffected by airspace, and the studio can be commissioned throughout the corridor. For aerial work, the airspace governs. Cochrane sits west of the Springbank (CYBW) control zone in largely uncontrolled Class G airspace, though the eastern approach to town runs closer to the CYBW boundary than the town limits suggest.
What that means in practice.
8 locations in this corridor are covered by the studio under the standard RPAS rules. None normally require a NAV CANADA authorisation for aerial work. The binding constraint in this corridor is light and weather, not paperwork.
Aerodromes in play. Springbank Airport (CYBW), Sundre aerodrome, Olds-Didsbury aerodrome, Airdrie aerodrome. Each has a circuit that is plotted before any aerial work nearby, because uncontrolled airspace is not the same thing as unoccupied airspace.
Mobilisation. Between 35 minutes and 1 hours from the Calgary studio, depending on the location. The nearer locations sit within a single day's shoot; the furthest are scheduled against the light and the weather window rather than the drive. It is quoted separately from the fee, so the scope for a project here is stated in full before anything is booked.
Conditions across the corridor.
Cochrane
A hillside town on the north bank of the Bow, with benches stepping up from the river and the foothills rising immediately west.
Squarely in the chinook belt. West wind accelerates as it comes off the foothills, and the valley below town channels it further.
Bragg Creek
Forested foothills on the Elbow River. Dense spruce and pine, meaningful elevation change, and the front ranges immediately west.
Foothills valley wind, funnelled by the river corridor and unpredictable in the lee of ridges.
Cremona
A village at the seam between cultivated prairie and the first rise of the foothills — flat, worked ground to the east and rolling, treed country climbing west toward Bergen Rocks.
Chinook belt. West wind comes off the foothills with the gust spread already built in, and the open ground along Highway 22 gives it nothing to slow against.
Redwood Meadows
A forested townsite beside the Elbow River — mature spruce and pine over curving residential streets, fairways threaded between the lots, and the foothills rising a short distance west.
Chinook winds cross the whole corridor, but the mature timber around the townsite takes the edge off surface gusts; above the canopy the wind runs at full strength.

Cochrane questions, answered.
Does Atom2Adam work across Cochrane?
Yes. Atom2Adam makes film, photography and aerial cinematography across Cochrane & the Foothills — 8 locations covered from the Calgary studio, each with its own page. Aerial work here does not normally require an authorisation. Every project is scoped and quoted before anything is booked.
Do you need airspace authorisation across Cochrane?
Not normally. The locations covered in Cochrane sit in uncontrolled Class G airspace. The specific address is still confirmed against NAV Drone before every flight, because airspace boundaries do not follow town limits. Film and photography are unaffected.
How far is Cochrane from the studio?
Between 35 minutes and 1 hours from the Calgary studio, depending on the location. The nearer locations sit within a single day's shoot; the furthest are scheduled against the light and the weather window rather than the drive. Mobilisation is quoted separately from the fee.
What kinds of subject does Cochrane call for?
The corridor is made for luxury homes, cafés, restaurants and retail, new communities and show homes. The subject shapes the shoot: a home needs its street, its light and its scale shown together, and a café or a restaurant needs its room, its table and its pace. Each project is scoped against a written brief.
