Northeast Calgary

Creative production across Northeast Calgary.

Calgary's northeast — Saddle Ridge, Skyview, Redstone, Cornerstone, Martindale, Taradale and the airport corridor. The most airspace-constrained quadrant in the city, and the one where the certificate held decides whether a flight is possible at all. Flat ground, wide lots, big industrial parcels, and an approach path overhead.

Aerial work across Calgary NE

Film and photography are unaffected by airspace, and the studio can be commissioned throughout the corridor. For aerial work, the airspace governs. The northeast sits directly beneath the Calgary International (CYYC) Class C control zone and, in places, under active approach paths. Nothing here is flown without a NAV CANADA authorisation in hand. An Advanced RPAS certificate is the minimum entry requirement.

What that means in practice.

24 locations in this corridor are covered by the studio under the standard RPAS rules. All of them sit in controlled airspace, so for aerial work an Advanced RPAS certificate is the entry requirement here rather than a credential worth mentioning. Film and photography are unaffected.

Aerodromes in play. Calgary International Airport (CYYC). Each has a circuit that is plotted before any aerial work nearby, because uncontrolled airspace is not the same thing as unoccupied airspace.

Mobilisation. Between 15 and 25 minutes from the Calgary studio, depending on the location. The whole corridor sits within a single day's shoot from Calgary. It is quoted separately from the fee, so the scope for a project here is stated in full before anything is booked.

Conditions across the corridor.

Abbeydale

Level prairie grade on Calgary's east side. The lot pattern is compact and regular, and from altitude the community reads as an even field of rooflines with Elliston Park as the nearest open break.

Chinook belt, with no relief to break it. A west wind that has crossed the whole city arrives here at full strength, and the gust spread matters more than the average on the forecast.

Applewood Park

Flat prairie grade on the city's east side, with compact residential streets opening onto the green of Applewood Park and the open ground of Elliston Park close by.

Squarely in the chinook belt and fully exposed. There is no valley or ridge here to shelter a launch site; wind at street level closely tracks wind at altitude.

Bridgeland/Riverside

An inner-city slope: the grade falls from Tom Campbell's Hill Park down through the streets toward Memorial Drive NE, so the community reads in stepped layers from the air.

Chinook belt, complicated by relief. West wind accelerates over the slope of Tom Campbell's Hill Park and produces mechanical turbulence on its lee side; gusts below the hill outrun the citywide numbers.

Castleridge

Level prairie in Calgary's far northeast, laid out in looping residential streets with Castleridge Park and the grounds around the Genesis Centre of Community Wellness providing the open breaks in the pattern.

Chinook belt and open to it. Flat terrain offers no shelter, so the west wind arrives at full strength; the practical difference between a flyable and an unflyable day here is the spread between average and gust.

What we make for Calgary NE.

Every subject is approached the same way — creative direction, film, photography, aerial and post-production, scoped and quoted before anything is booked.

Locations in Calgary NE.

Calgary NE questions, answered.

Does Atom2Adam work across Calgary NE?

Yes. Atom2Adam makes film, photography and aerial cinematography across Northeast Calgary — 24 locations covered from the Calgary studio, each with its own page. Aerial work here flies with airspace authorisation in hand. Every project is scoped and quoted before anything is booked.

Do you need airspace authorisation across Calgary NE?

Yes, for aerial work, across the corridor. Every location covered in Calgary NE sits in controlled airspace, so aerial cinematography flies under an Advanced RPAS certificate with a NAV CANADA authorisation filed before the shoot date is confirmed. Film and photography on the ground are unaffected.

How far is Calgary NE from the studio?

Between 15 and 25 minutes from the Calgary studio, depending on the location. The whole corridor sits within a single day's shoot from Calgary. Mobilisation is quoted separately from the fee.

What kinds of subject does Calgary NE call for?

The corridor is made for luxury homes, cafés, restaurants and retail, civic places and infrastructure. The subject shapes the shoot: a home needs its street, its light and its scale shown together, and a café or a restaurant needs its room, its table and its pace. Each project is scoped against a written brief.
