Marlborough sits inside a tight triangle of aviation: the CYYC control zone overhead, the airport itself 7 km away and the Peter Lougheed Centre heliport only 2 km out — fixed-wing and rotor considerations overlapping the same sky. That geometry is what makes this part of the city demanding. A Basic certificate does not permit flight here at all, and a plan that ignores the heliport may not survive review.

The authorisation is filed as part of booking, the flight plan keeps clear of the heliport approaches, and the site is confirmed in NAV Drone — the shoot date firms up once the paperwork is in hand.

Light. Flat grade, full-length golden hours at both ends of the day. Winter snow cover cycles with every chinook, and the commercial roofscape reads cleanest in low raking light rather than at noon.

Terrain. Level east-side ground organised around the commercial block of Marlborough Mall and the LRT line, with residential streets fanning out from 36 Street NE.

Wind. Chinook belt, flat and open. The west wind arrives across the whole city with no local relief to slow it, so the spread between steady wind and gusts decides whether an afternoon is flyable.

Airspace. Marlborough sits about 7 km from Calgary International, inside the CYYC control zone as charted. Flights here are conducted under an Advanced RPAS certificate with a NAV CANADA RPAS authorisation obtained before the shoot is confirmed. On the ground. Under Calgary's parks bylaws, municipal parks and pathways are not available for drone takeoff or landing, so launches operate from private property with the owner's permission. About 15 minutes from the Calgary base. Marlborough anchors the inner east side, pairing readily with Rundle, Whitehorn or Mayland Heights in a single trip.
