Creative production in Cougar Ridge.

Cougar Ridge is laid out across the Paskapoo Slopes, so from above its crescents run in contour lines and the rooflines step downhill in tiers, with the WinSport ski runs cutting the hillside immediately beside them. Ground photography treats each house as level ground; the tiered setting — and the fact that a backyard can look onto a ski hill — never makes it into the gallery.

A boundary-line orbit along the slope holds the roofline tiers and the WinSport runs in a single move, delivered on the turnaround agreed at booking.

Light. Snow lingers on the ski runs beside the community after the streets are bare, which gives winter frames a graphic edge; in summer, evening light rakes across the tiers and separates the rooflines.

Terrain. Benched hillside on the Paskapoo Slopes: streets follow the contour, lots step in tiers, and the grade runs down toward the valley on the community's north side.

Wind. Chinook belt, with the slope adding its own behaviour — wind coming off the higher ground to the west works the brow of the hillside harder than the flats below, so gust spread sets the window.

Airspace. At about 16 km from Calgary International, Cougar Ridge runs close to the charted edge of the CYYC control zone — which side of the line an address falls on decides the paperwork. Planning treats it as controlled airspace until NAV Drone shows otherwise, and any required authorisation is filed before the date is booked. Every flight is preceded by a NAV Drone check of the specific site and altitude.

On the ground. Municipal parks and pathways are off-limits for drone takeoff and landing under City of Calgary parks bylaws, so every launch here is staged from private property with the client's consent. About 20 minutes from the base. West Springs, Aspen Woods, Discovery Ridge and Patterson all sit within the same west-side corridor, so pairing two shoots on one mobilisation is straightforward.
