Patterson faces the morning. The community steps down the valley wall toward Edworthy Park, and at the end of the day the high ground behind it takes the sun first — a shadow line walks down through Patterson Heights SW while Edworthy Park below is still lit. An evening shoot booked off the published sunset time can arrive to find the address already in terrain shadow while the valley floor still glows — on this slope, golden hour belongs to elevations, not to the clock.

The flight is timed to the address's own place on the hillside: a hold flown in the minutes that terrace carries direct light, planned from the terrain rather than the almanac, delivered on the turnaround agreed at booking.

Light. Aspect drives the calendar: the east-facing slope takes strong morning light year-round, and evening shoots run earlier here than the sunset time suggests. Snow lingers in the treed draws toward Edworthy Park after the open terraces have cleared.

Terrain. A terraced hillside community on the west wall of the Bow valley. Streets stack from Patterson Boulevard SW up through Patterson Heights SW, and the ground runs down through trees to Edworthy Park and the river flats.

Wind. Chinook belt. West wind comes over the high ground above the community and can tumble on the lee slope, so the air over the terraces is often less settled than the same wind over flat ground nearby.

Airspace. Patterson sits about 13 km from Calgary International — near the charted boundary of the CYYC control zone, close enough that which side of the line a given address falls on decides the paperwork. It is planned as controlled airspace until NAV Drone shows otherwise for the specific site, and where authorisation is required it is filed before the date is booked. The specific site and altitude are confirmed against NAV Drone before every flight.

On the ground. Calgary's parks bylaws keep drone launches out of municipal parks and off pathways — Edworthy Park and the Patterson Pathway included — so takeoff and landing are staged from private property with the client's consent. About 15 minutes from the Calgary base. Short enough to hit a precise light window on the slope, and a Patterson visit pairs cleanly with Coach Hill, Signal Hill or Cougar Ridge.
