Drumheller Valley
Creative production across Drumheller Valley.
The Drumheller Valley — Drumheller, Rosedale, East Coulee and Wayne. About 28 km of Red Deer River badlands, 2 km wide and roughly 120 m deep, most of it inside the Town of Drumheller since the 1998 amalgamation that made it Alberta's largest town by land area. The valley's attractions — the Royal Tyrrell Museum, the Atlas Coal Mine, the hoodoos — each set their own filming terms, so a shoot here starts with permissions rather than airspace.
Aerial work across Drumheller Valley
Film and photography are unaffected by airspace, and Atom2Adam — a creative consultancy and media agency, commissioned worldwide and operating from Calgary — can be commissioned throughout the corridor. For aerial work, the airspace governs. Uncontrolled Class G airspace on the published geometry, about 85 km clear of the nearest control zone, with one hard exception: CYR211, a continuously active Class F restricted area around the Drumheller Institution south-east of town. The Drumheller Municipal Airport's GPS approaches and crop-spraying traffic and the health centre heliport are planned around too, and each site is confirmed against NAV Drone before every flight.
What that means in practice.
1 location in this corridor is covered by the agency under the standard RPAS rules. None normally require a NAV CANADA authorisation for aerial work. The binding constraint in this corridor is light and weather, not paperwork.
Aerodromes in play. Drumheller Municipal Airport (CEG4). Each has a circuit that is plotted before any aerial work nearby, because uncontrolled airspace is not the same thing as unoccupied airspace.
Mobilisation. About 1.9 hours from the Calgary base, for every location covered here. The nearer locations sit within a single day's shoot; the furthest are scheduled against the light and the weather window rather than the drive. It is quoted separately from the fee, so the scope for a project here is stated in full before anything is booked.
Conditions across the corridor.
Drumheller
Drumheller's stretch of the Red Deer River valley runs about 28 km long and 2 km wide, cut roughly 120 m below the prairie bench. The 1998 amalgamation made Drumheller Alberta's largest town by land area, 107.93 km² strung along the valley from Nacmine to East Coulee. Between Rosedale and Wayne the road crosses 11 one-lane bridges in six kilometres over the winding Rosebud River.
Environment and Climate Change Canada's 1991–2020 normals from the valley-floor station at Drumheller East put the mean wind at a gentle 9.2 km/h, most often from the south-east in every month as the valley steers it, and strongest in April and May (11.4–11.6 km/h). Conditions on the prairie rim and the canyon tops may differ, and afternoon humidity falls to about 35–39% in summer, so dust and static are planned for.

Drumheller Valley questions, answered.
Does Atom2Adam work across Drumheller Valley?
Yes. Atom2Adam, a consultancy and media agency working worldwide from its Calgary base, makes film, photography and aerial cinematography across Drumheller Valley — 1 location covered from the Calgary base, each with its own page. Aerial work here does not normally require an authorisation. Every project is scoped and quoted before anything is booked.
Do you need airspace authorisation across Drumheller Valley?
Not normally. The locations covered in Drumheller Valley sit in uncontrolled Class G airspace. The specific address is still confirmed against NAV Drone before every flight, because airspace boundaries do not follow town limits. Film and photography are unaffected.
How far is Drumheller Valley from the agency's base?
About 1.9 hours from the Calgary base, for every location covered here. The nearer locations sit within a single day's shoot; the furthest are scheduled against the light and the weather window rather than the drive. Mobilisation is quoted separately from the fee.
What kinds of subject does Drumheller Valley call for?
The corridor is made for hospitality and tourism, brand and campaign films, places and landmarks. The subject shapes the shoot: hospitality needs the arrival, the room and the landscape it sits in, and a brand film needs the work itself, filmed as it happens. Each project is scoped against a written brief.
