Light is a second subject.

Architecture, interiors, hospitality and lifestyle photography, composed so that nothing in the frame is accidental. Shoots are timed around the sun; shadow is used deliberately; the highlights that give a material its character are protected.

Does Atom2Adam offer photography?

Yes. Photography is one of five capabilities at Atom2Adam, a global creative consultancy and media agency operating from Calgary, Canada — architecture, interiors, hospitality, lifestyle, editorial, commercial, wedding and product-and-detail photography, directed under the same creative direction as the film and the aerial work so that a set reads as one project. Stills are delivered colour-managed for the web, for print and for the campaign, with the camera originals where the commission calls for them.

What it decides. What it makes.

The judgment first, then the work that follows from it.

Decides

  • The hour — every exterior and most interiors are timed to the sun
  • The frame — what is moved, straightened or waited out before the shutter
  • The light — what is protected in the highlights, and what is allowed to fall into shadow
  • The set — which frames carry the story, and which are detail

Makes

  • Architecture and interior photography
  • Hospitality and lifestyle photography
  • Editorial and commercial stills
  • Wedding photography
  • Product and detail — material, food, atmosphere
  • Hero frames for headers, thumbnails and print

The craft.

What separates a good version of this work from a bad one.

  1. 01

Nothing in the frame is accidental

Every object within the frame contributes to the image. Move the chair. Straighten the glass. Wait for the person to leave the background. The camera does not merely observe a room; it curates what the room looks like through the frame.

  2. 02

Shoots are timed around the sun

Window direction, the hour, the season. A west-facing room has one usable hour; a north-facing façade wants an overcast day. The schedule follows the light rather than the calendar.

  3. 03

    Restraint over brightness

Luxury imagery comes from restraint more often than from brightness. Shadow gives a material its depth; a protected highlight gives it its character. A frame lit flat to show everything shows nothing.

  4. 04

A set is one project, not a folder of frames

Stills are graded in the same colour language as the film and the aerial work they will sit beside, so the website, the campaign and the print read as one place seen by one eye.

Inside a commission.

Photography is shot on the same days and under the same direction as the film, so the stills and the moving picture share a colour language and a point of view. In a full commission it becomes the editorial photography, the detail photography, the hero frames for headers and thumbnails and the social crops — retouched and finished in post-production, and archived at full resolution in the master archive.

From the studio's own photography

A single skin track curving up an untouched snow bowl toward a corniced col, two small ski tourers ahead under a deep blue sky
Alpenglow on a limestone summit beyond a pale scree ridge at sunset, a forested ridge below, from a mountain shoulder
A lone hiker crossing a wide ochre scree slope high above a turquoise tarn, grey limestone benches and a glacier lost in storm cloud beyond
Four people eating around a wooden picnic table in the dark, lit only by red headlamps and the blue flame of a camp stove

Questions, answered.

Does Atom2Adam photograph interiors as well as exteriors?

Yes. Interiors, architecture, hospitality spaces, lifestyle and detail are photographed as one set under one direction, alongside the exteriors and the aerial frames. Interiors are timed to window light and the hour, and the set is composed so that a room reads the way it is lived in rather than the way it is listed.

How are photographs delivered?

Colour-managed, in the sizes the commission needs: web derivatives for the site and the campaign, print-ready files where print is in scope, hero frames and social crops, and the camera originals where the written scope calls for them. Everything is retouched and finished in post-production and archived at full resolution.

Can photography be commissioned on its own?

Yes. Photography is practised on its own and directed as part of the whole. A stills-only commission still begins with a creative direction — the audience, the light, the frames that matter — because that is what separates a set from a folder of pictures.

Where does Atom2Adam photograph?

Wherever the brief needs. Photography is routine across Alberta and British Columbia, available across the rest of Canada on request, and travels anywhere in the world when the client covers travel and expenses at cost — the fee covers the work. The finished set is delivered digitally.
