Revelstoke · British Columbia, Canada

Film and aerial for Revelstoke's resort, lodges and heli-ski country.

Revelstoke Mountain Resort claims the most vertical in North America, five heli-ski companies work out of town, and a golf course and lodge open beside the Columbia in 2027. Atom2Adam takes commissions here, planned around the snow, two national parks and the pass that can close the road from Calgary.

Snow is the brief, and the road is the schedule.

Revelstoke sits on the Columbia River just south of the Revelstoke Dam, with Mount Revelstoke National Park immediately north and Glacier National Park east across the Selkirks. Revelstoke Mountain Resort, on Mount Mackenzie, claims the most vertical in North America at 1,713 metres and gives its average snowfall as 10.5 m. Tourism Revelstoke counts five heli-ski companies based in town, and Kootenay Rockies Tourism lists snowcat tours and backcountry routes besides.

The resort side is still being built. Revelstoke Mountain Resort says the Cabot Revelstoke golf course opens to the public in 2027, with its lodge scheduled for early 2027, and its Benchlands Residences offer high-end townhomes and estate lots beside the course. At the 2021 census, 385 of the city's 3,739 private dwellings were not occupied by usual residents.

The town is older than the resort. Revelstoke's economy has traditionally been tied to the Canadian Pacific Railway, and trains still pass through the downtown core; Hallmark has filmed on Mackenzie Avenue. Parks Canada describes the forest of the Columbia Mountains around the national park as part of one of the world's only inland temperate rainforests, its old growth dominated by western redcedar and hemlock.

What Revelstoke asks for first.

  1. 02Snow, heli and lodge films. A heli- or cat-ski week sells the terrain and the lodge together: the morning flight, the run, the fire and the table. The resort's 2026/27 season opens on 5 December, and a winter film is planned for the snow and for the 7 h 54 min of daylight Revelstoke gets at the solstice — brand, hospitality and campaign films.
  2. 04Aerial by the resort's rules. Revelstoke Mountain Resort asks outside drone pilots for proof of certification, registration and $2 million in liability insurance, bars flights over its gondola and chairlifts without prior authorisation, and asks pilots working low on the mountain to notify the airport and the helicopter operators. Mount Revelstoke and Glacier national parks are closed to drones — aerial cinematography, cleared with the resort.
  3. 01A plan that allows for the pass. Avalanche control closes the Trans-Canada through Rogers Pass for about 100 hours a year, two to eight hours at a time. The consultancy builds standby time and every permission — resort, City, parks — into the plan before the crew leaves Calgary — the work of consultancy and creative direction.
  4. 03Rooms, plates and estate lots. Hotels, restaurants and the new resort neighbourhoods — rooms, food, Mount Begbie seen from the deck, an estate lot before the house goes up — made for booking pages, menus and sales. See hospitality and property photography.
  5. 05Graded for snow and overcast. Snow and a grey sky sit close together in tone. Edit, colour, sound and finishing at the studio keep them apart across a hero film, the short cuts and the stills, delivered digitally for the whole season — post-production and colour.

Commissions Revelstoke supports.

These follow the city's own economy — snow, the resort, the railway and the river — not a list of past clients.

  • Heli- and cat-ski lodges

Lodge, guest and guide films for operators who sell the week, not only the run.

  • Resort and real estate

Resort marketing and the new neighbourhoods — townhomes, slope-side and estate lots — photographed and flown with the resort's permission.

  • Openings

A new lodge, course or restaurant needs its first film and stills before its first season; Revelstoke has several due in 2026 and 2027.

  • Hotels and restaurants

Rooms and plates for a town that runs a food festival, Revel & Feast, in October.

  • Railway and heritage

Trains through the downtown core, the railway museum and Mackenzie Avenue, a street Hallmark has already used as a set.

  • Sledding and summer brands

Snowmobiling at Boulder Mountain and Frisby Ridge in winter; the river, the dam and Mount Begbie in summer.

Twenty-four seconds from Fields and Forest, made at Radium Hot Springs, 155 km east: the camera drifts over dense conifer canopy on a valley wall toward grey limestone summits with cloud below them. The old growth Parks Canada describes around Revelstoke is cedar and hemlock; this film is the studio's work at Radium, shown for the move rather than the trees.

Planning a Revelstoke shoot.

Getting there. Tourism Revelstoke puts the drive from Calgary at 410 km and 4.5 hours, west on the Trans-Canada over Rogers Pass, and recommends flying to Kelowna International, 2.5 hours away. Revelstoke Airport lies 3.1 km south-south-east of the city.

Rogers Pass. Avalanche control closes the Trans-Canada through Rogers Pass for about 100 hours a year on average, each closure lasting 2 to 8 hours or longer (Parks Canada), and from November to April the highway and rail line close before each Operation PALACI artillery shoot. Stretches below avalanche paths are no-stopping zones. DriveBC is checked on the day.

Clock and light. From 1 November 2026 British Columbia's Pacific time stays at UTC−7 and Alberta stays on UTC−6, so Revelstoke runs one hour behind Calgary all year (Province of BC). On 21 December the astronomical day is 7 h 54 min; on 21 June, 16 h 33 min. Snow can linger on Mount Revelstoke's summit into late July or early August.

Airspace. Revelstoke Airport sits close to town, and heli-ski helicopters work the surrounding ranges; the resort asks pilots below its gondola's mid-station to notify both. Each site is checked against them and against Transport Canada's rules before a date is confirmed, and no drone flies near a wildfire.

Parks. Mount Revelstoke and Glacier national parks are no-drone zones, and Parks Canada requires any drone on a commercial shoot to be declared in a Film and Photography Permit application. The Meadows in the Sky Parkway climbs 26 km to the subalpine meadows and does not admit vehicles over 7.9 m. Filming in BC provincial parks, such as Blanket Creek, goes through FrontCounter BC.

In town. The City lists special event and road closure permits. When Hallmark filmed Frozen in Love on Mackenzie Avenue in December 2017, the only full road closure announced was Grizzly Plaza; each location is arranged with the City directly.

Questions about Revelstoke, answered.

Can you fly a drone at Revelstoke Mountain Resort?

Yes, on the resort's terms. Revelstoke Mountain Resort's requirements for outside pilots include a pilot certificate, drone registration, $2 million in liability insurance and contact with resort dispatch; flights over the gondola or chairlifts need prior authorisation, and pilots working low on the mountain notify the airport and the helicopter operators. Atom2Adam plans every resort flight inside those rules.

Does Rogers Pass affect a winter shoot from Calgary?

Yes. Parks Canada averages about 100 hours of avalanche-control closures a year on the Trans-Canada through Rogers Pass, each 2 to 8 hours or longer, and from November to April military artillery shoots close the road first. A winter commission carries standby time and is driven with an eye on DriveBC; it is never scheduled to the minute.

Has Atom2Adam filmed in Revelstoke?

No. The nearest published work is Westgate Cafe in Salmon Arm, 85 km south-west in a straight line — eleven aerial takes and three aerial photographs — and two aerial stories at Radium Hot Springs, 155 km east. They are shown on this page for the craft, each captioned with its own place. Atom2Adam has no office or crew in Revelstoke.

What time zone is Revelstoke in now?

Pacific time, which British Columbia keeps at UTC−7 all year from 1 November 2026. Alberta stays on UTC−6, so a Revelstoke shoot day runs one hour behind a Calgary clock all year — worth knowing when the call sheet is written in Calgary and the light is read in Revelstoke.

How is a Revelstoke commission quoted?

By the commission, against a written brief. Creative direction, the shoot days and post-production make up the fee; travel from Calgary, accommodation, ground transport and local permits are billed at cost. No rates are published, because a lodge film in January and a golf-course opening in summer are different pieces of work.

The agency

Revelstoke, on a global agency’s map.

Atom2Adam is a global creative consultancy and media agency. It advises on how a place, a brand or an experience should be seen — creative direction, visual strategy, campaign planning — and then makes the work: film, photography, aerial cinematography and post-production, finished for every screen it will live on. It operates from Calgary, Canada; the consultancy is delivered anywhere, and production travels on a client-funded basis.

Commissions travel. The consultancy — direction, strategy, references, the plan — needs no flight and is delivered anywhere. When production leaves the Calgary base, the client covers travel, accommodation, ground transport and local permits at cost; the fee covers the work.
